About CalcEat
CalcEat is a calorie and nutrition tracking app for iPhone and Android, made by Alphaborn and founded by Idan Refaeli. You can log a meal by taking a photo of it, search a large food database, and track meals, water, and exercise in one place.
What this website is for
Alongside the app, this site offers free nutrition calculators and food guides in 16 languages. They work without an account, and they are built on the same public nutrition data we use to answer our own questions about food.
Editorial policy
Nutrition affects health, so we hold our numbers to a simple rule: every figure we publish must come from a source we can point to.
Who writes our guides
Guides are written by the CalcEat Nutrition Team, the people who build the app. We are not a medical provider, and our guides are general information, not medical or dietary advice for your situation. If you have a health condition, talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian.
Where our numbers come from
Calories and nutrients for foods come from USDA FoodData Central, the United States Department of Agriculture's public food composition database. Each food guide lists the exact database entries it uses in its Sources section. Guidance on intake and health draws on public health bodies such as the NIH, CDC, and WHO, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and peer-reviewed studies. Exercise estimates use the Compendium of Physical Activities.
How we present numbers
We anchor food values to 100 grams, the way the USDA reports them, and scale them to common portions by weight. Rounded figures are marked with "about", because real foods vary by brand, recipe, and ripeness. Our calculators show which value they are based on, and they use the same data as the guide they sit in.
Localized, not just translated
Every language version keeps the same underlying data. We change the presentation for each market: metric units in the local language, and food examples that fit local eating, such as kosher and halal alternatives where relevant.
Updates and corrections
When we change an article's content, its date line shows when it was updated. If you find a number that looks wrong, email us at alphabornapps@gmail.com with the page and the figure, and we will check it against the source and correct it.
