DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry). A quick, low-dose X-ray scan that separates fat, lean tissue, and bone, and even shows where fat sits. It is accurate but typically done at a clinic or lab and costs money.
Hydrostatic (underwater) weighing. A long-standing reference method that weighs you submerged to calculate body density. It is very accurate in skilled hands but cumbersome: you have to be dunked and exhale fully, which not everyone manages well.

Body fat percentage versus BMI
